Wernigeröder fairy tale trail
A special hiking highlight for families is the Wernigerode Fairy Tale Trail, which leads through the middle of the forest. At various stations, visitors can learn about Grimm’s fairy tales as well as the environment. Various tasks must be completed, and those who can show a full sheet of paper at the Armeleuteberg inn at the end will even receive a small reward. A stop here is also highly recommended! Fairy tale hikers can also pick up a special stamp for their Harz hiking pin at the inn.
Route: Kaiserturm – Blumenspiel – Der Wolf – Steine – Brotkrumenspiel – Hänsel und Gretel 2.0 – Vogeluhr – Baumspiel – Rapunzelturm.
Emperors & Kings Hiking Trail
This hike leads from Wernigerode to Blankenburg along a section of the German Emperors and Kings Trail. You will explore Wernigerode Castle, the Büchenberg exhibition mine and Michaelstein Abbey. The day trip leads through extensive wooded areas and is therefore also very relaxing. The entire route covers an altitude difference of almost 540 metres. With the exception of one small section, it is also suitable for cyclists.
Route: Marktplatz Wernigerode – Schloss Wernigerode – Christianental – Henkersberg – Mahlberg – Hartenberg – Eggeröder Brunnen – Volkmarskeller – Klostergrund – Kloster Michaelstein.
Bird circular walking trail
This hike is particularly exciting if you are interested in the fauna of the Harz Mountains. Here you can explore the region’s bird life in detail. Lovingly created by musician and biologist Dominik Eulberg, information boards show you the different species of birds that, with a little luck, you may also be able to observe in the wild. If it doesn’t work, QR codes ensure that you can still hear the bird songs.
