Aircraft museum Wernigerode
At the Wernigerode Aviation Museum, you can get closer to the history and present of aviation in four hangars than anywhere else – without barrier tape and social distancing! Each hangar has a different theme:
- Hangar 1: The “History Hangar” impressively shows how humanity has pursued the dream of flying over the centuries.
- Hangar 2: For Bridge of Spies, the museum team worked with director Steven Spielberg to recreate an entire cockpit. The Hollywood Hangar tells the story behind it.
- Hangar 3: Helicopters from different eras and for different purposes await you in the “Helicopter Hangar”.

Harzmuseum Wernigerode
At the Wernigerode Resin Museum, you can immerse yourself in the history of the Harz region – from its origins to the present day. The Resin Museum has 16 rooms displaying exhibits from all geological eras, allowing you to trace the development of the Harz region. The permanent exhibition displays exhibits on geology and mining as well as on the history of Wernigerode and the development of art in the Harz region. Changing special exhibitions further enrich the basic offering and make every visit exciting and unique!
Vehicle and steam locomotive workshop Wernigerode
Discover the heart of the Harz narrow-gauge railways on a guided tour – the vehicle workshop. This is where all the technology is maintained, from steam locomotives to passenger and freight cars. The impressive workshop hall, built in 1926, offers a unique backdrop for your journey into railway history.
Since June 2023, the newly opened “steam locomotive workshop”, where the HSB steam locomotives have been undergoing general inspections since 2022, has also been open for guided tours. Here, you can watch from a gallery as the steam locomotives are completely dismantled, refurbished and reassembled in several work areas – an unforgettable experience, especially for railway enthusiasts and history buffs.
Castle Museum Falkenstein
