Castle and fortress Regenstein
This castle is sure to stay in your memory, as many of its rooms were carved directly into the rock.

Town of Quedlinburg
The town of Quedlinburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is therefore one of the destinations near Wernigerode that you should definitely have on your list! In addition to the entire old town, the Schlossberg with its collegiate church is particularly worth seeing. The town centre between the collegiate church and the market square is also ideal for a shopping trip in a historic setting.
Rübeland stalactite caves
You can visit two impressive stalactite caves in nearby Oberharz am Brocken: Baumann’s Cave is Germany’s oldest natural show cave and impresses with its many different stalactite formations. But you can also enter Hermann’s Cave. This is a very special experience, mainly due to its large cavities and the underground Olmsensee lake, home to Germany’s only cave salamanders. Both caves can be explored in more detail on guided tours lasting around 50 minutes, and regular events such as torchlight tours especially for children also give young visitors an insight into the fascination of caves.
Devil’s Wall
The Devil’s Wall is a famous rock formation that stretches for about 20 kilometres from Ballenstedt to Blankenburg. The section near Weddersleben is even a nature reserve in its own right. But the Devil’s Wall also has a lot to offer culturally: There are numerous myths surrounding them, which you can explore on the hiking trails through the area. Even the Brothers Grimm included them in their stories, and the bizarre rocks have also served as a film set on several occasions! The best thing to do is to see them for yourself!
